In a recent court filing, former Georgia College and State University professor Adam Lamparello has initiated legal action against the university and several of its officials. Lamparello claims his First and Fourteenth Amendment rights were violated when he was terminated for speaking out about student plagiarism and misconduct. The lawsuit names Cathy Cox, T. Dallas Smith, Holley Roberts, Karin Elliott, Indiren Pillay, and Amy Phillips as defendants. Lamparello argues that his termination was retaliatory following his exercise of free speech on a professional listserv regarding academic integrity issues at the university. He is seeking compensatory damages exceeding $75,000, reinstatement to his position, and punitive damages.
