In a shocking case that highlights the ongoing issue of workplace discrimination, an African-American employee has taken legal action against his employer for alleged racial discrimination and a hostile work environment. On January 30, 2026, Christopher Crayton filed a complaint in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia against Heyden Enterprises, LLC, doing business as Heyden Supply.
The lawsuit details a disturbing pattern of racial discrimination and harassment faced by Crayton during his employment as a Class A Truck Driver since July 21, 2021. According to the complaint, Crayton was subjected to a hostile work environment where white employees frequently used racial slurs, including the N-word, in his presence. The plaintiff alleges that these incidents occurred regularly at the company’s Cumming, Georgia location. Furthermore, Crayton claims that non-African-American employees openly shared discriminatory views about African-Americans with him and even informed him that the company was “racist.” On several occasions, employees allegedly shouted “white power” while performing Nazi salutes around him.
Crayton’s complaints to management about this treatment reportedly led to retaliation rather than resolution. He accuses Heyden Enterprises of threatening him with write-ups based on fabricated allegations and transferring him to work sites further from his home. Additionally, he was assigned heavier workloads compared to his non-African-American peers. These actions are claimed to be in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Section 1981.
The plaintiff is seeking compensatory damages for emotional distress and loss of enjoyment of life caused by the alleged discrimination and retaliation. He also demands punitive damages for what he describes as willful and reckless disregard for his rights under federal law. In addition to financial compensation, Crayton seeks declaratory judgments declaring Heyden Enterprises’ practices unlawful under Title VII and Section 1981.
Representing Crayton are attorneys Justin M. Scott and Tierra M. Monteiro from Radford Scott LLP in Decatur, Georgia. The case is being overseen by Judge VMC-LRS under Case ID 1:26-cv-00577-VMC-LRS.
