Andrea Leah Cotton filed a personal injury lawsuit against Bianca Bouie and her employer, Prodigies Child Care Management, following an automobile collision. The case revolved around the application of the respondeat superior doctrine, which determines if an employer can be held liable for the actions of their employees. Initially, the trial court ruled in favor of University Childcare, but this decision was reversed by the Court of Appeals. However, upon further review by the Supreme Court of Georgia, it was determined that Bouie was not acting within the scope of her employment during her lunch break commute when the accident occurred. Consequently, the trial court’s decision to grant summary judgment to University Childcare was affirmed.
