The Department of Justice has informed the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts that funds are available to provide additional payments to eligible Chapter 7 bankruptcy trustees for fiscal year 2024, as established by the Bankruptcy Administration Improvement Act of 2020 (BAIA). This act allows for an extra payment of up to $60 per case for eligible trustees from fiscal years 2021 through 2026.
Bankruptcy courts will start processing these additional payments for cases that qualify. Eligible cases include Chapter 7 filings made between October 1, 2023, and September 30, 2024. Also included are Chapter 11, 12, or 13 cases filed on or after January 12, 2021, that were later converted to Chapter 7 within the same period.
A public webpage has been created by the Administrative Office of the United States Courts on uscourts.gov to provide information about BAIA trustee payments and implementation details. Trustees are asked to wait while clerks’ offices process payments before seeking updates or information.
