Ricardo Trejo-Martinez and Hector Beltran-Ledesma, both identified as illegal aliens from Mexico, have been charged with assaulting or resisting federal deportation officers in separate incidents. Beltran-Ledesma also faces charges for illegally re-entering the United States after a prior deportation.
“Interference with law enforcement and attacks on officers are unjustifiable,” stated U.S. Attorney Theodore S. Hertzberg. He emphasized that their office adheres to a zero-tolerance policy and will hold accountable those who obstruct federal law enforcement officers.
Steven N. Schrank, Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations in Georgia and Alabama, remarked, “Violence and physical resistance against our men and women of law enforcement who place themselves at risk to enhance public safety will never be tolerated.” He noted that due to the efforts of their agents, both individuals now face serious charges.
The charges stem from incidents on May 20 and June 21, 2025. On May 20, a deportation officer stopped a vehicle driven by Trejo-Martinez in Commerce, Georgia. Trejo-Martinez allegedly refused to provide identification and pushed the officer into the highway during the stop. On June 21, Beltran-Ledesma was located in Roswell, Georgia; he reportedly attempted to flee upon seeing officers and resisted arrest when commanded to stop.
U.S. Attorney Hertzberg reminded the public that these complaints contain only charges and that defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt at trial.
This case is part of Operation Take Back America, an initiative by the Department of Justice aimed at combating illegal immigration and protecting communities from violent crime through coordinated efforts involving multiple task forces.
Both cases are under investigation by the Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
