In a recent ruling by the Court of Appeals of Georgia, Jarrett McCloud’s appeal against his conviction for family-violence aggravated battery and cruelty to children was denied. The case revolved around serious injuries sustained by McCloud’s three-week-old son, A.M., in 2019. Medical experts concluded that the injuries were due to non-accidental blunt force trauma. McCloud challenged the sufficiency of evidence and claimed ineffective assistance from his trial counsel, among other arguments. However, the court found the circumstantial evidence sufficient to uphold his convictions and ruled that McCloud’s trial counsel did not perform deficiently.
