A female employee has brought a significant lawsuit against a state department, alleging workplace discrimination and unfair treatment. Kristi Register filed a complaint on February 18, 2026, in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia against the Georgia Department of Human Services (DHS), Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS). The complaint accuses the DFCS of sex discrimination, retaliation, and harassment.

The case revolves around alleged discriminatory practices by the defendant towards Kristi Register during her tenure as a remote worker assigned to the SNAP E&T HUB within DFCS. According to the complaint, Register faced discrimination starting from an offsite meeting in Savannah, Georgia, in February 2024. Her manager at that time, Felicia Ellis, allegedly warned her against reporting any complaints above her head. Following this incident, Register claims she was subjected to unequal workload requirements compared to her Black colleagues and eventually suspended without pay indefinitely in May 2024. She asserts that these actions were unjustly based on her gender and retaliatory due to her vocal opposition to these practices.

Register further details that while she was held accountable for supposed time-reporting discrepancies, all her work hours were pre-approved by her supervisor Loyd Pack. Despite these approvals, she was accused of violations related to time management which led to her suspension and eventual termination on July 4, 2024. The plaintiff highlights that similar scrutiny was not applied to Pack or other male employees despite their involvement in managing work hours.

The plaintiff is seeking various forms of relief from the court including declaratory judgment recognizing the violation of Title VII rights under the Civil Rights Act of 1964. She demands back pay with interest for lost wages due to unlawful suspension and termination, reinstatement or compensation for future lost wages, compensatory damages for emotional distress and suffering caused by these actions, removal of negative employment records affecting future job prospects, and coverage of legal costs incurred during this process.

Representing Kristi Register is attorney Percy L. Square from Dacula, Georgia. The case is identified as Case No. 1:26-cv-00934-ELR-CCB and will be overseen by Judge Eleanor L. Ross.
