The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia announced on Apr. 23 that it will join district courts from across the country to present the 2026 Virtual POWER Act event on Wednesday, May 20, at 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The event aims to encourage pro bono legal services as a way to support survivors of domestic violence, stalking, and sexual assault.

The Virtual POWER Act event is designed to empower victims and raise awareness about the importance of legal assistance in breaking cycles of violence. Organizers say it also seeks to engage citizens in supporting survivors through community involvement.

This year’s speakers include U.S. District Judge Laura Taylor Swain from the Southern District of New York and Jennifer R. Rawlings, an attorney with Yale University who co-directs the Center for Indigenous Peoples Rights. Participation is free and open to everyone, but registration is required.

According to the official website, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia handles federal civil and criminal cases within its jurisdiction and provides court information as well as judicial resources. The court operates within the federal judicial system according to its official website. It serves 46 counties in northwestern Georgia with divisions located in Atlanta, Gainesville, Newnan, and Rome according to its official website. The court was established in 1848 after being formed from a subdivision of the original District of Georgia according to its official website.
