The State Bar of Georgia announced on April 1 that it will file motions to amend its Rules and Regulations no earlier than 30 days after the publication date. The action is being taken in accordance with a Supreme Court of Georgia order from December 6, 1963, as amended by later orders.

This announcement is important for members of the State Bar of Georgia because it outlines changes that could affect how the organization operates. The proposed amendments are published in the State Bar of Georgia Handbook, and their exact text can be accessed through Motion 2026-2 and Motion 2026-3.

Members who wish to review a printed copy of these proposed amendments may request one by contacting Betty Derrickson at the Office of the General Counsel, State Bar of Georgia, located at 104 Marietta St. NW, Suite 100, Atlanta, GA.

Damon E. Elmore, Executive Director of the State Bar of Georgia, said: “I hereby certify that the motion contains the verbatim text of the proposed amendment as approved by the Board of Governors of the State Bar of Georgia. Any member in good standing…who desires to object…may only do so in the manner provided by Rule 5-102 before May 5, 2026. Any objections received or filed after said date will not be considered.” Elmore also stated that this notice and publication comply with Rule 5-101 requirements.

The process allows for input from members before any final decision is made on amending these rules.
