In a recent decision by the Court of Appeals of Georgia, Teri Meadows’ appeal against Dollar General Store was dismissed. Meadows had filed a premises liability lawsuit after injuring her hand while attempting to close a malfunctioning door at the store. The trial court had previously granted summary judgment in favor of Dollar General, concluding that Meadows had equal knowledge of the door’s hazardous condition and failed to exercise ordinary care for her safety. The appellate court upheld this decision, noting that Meadows was aware of the door’s issues and had traversed it safely before her injury. Consequently, Dollar General was not held liable for her injuries or related claims for punitive damages and attorney fees.
