Traci Hollingsworth has filed a lawsuit against Burke County Sheriff Alfonzo Williams and Investigator Martrell Williams, accusing them of retaliating against her for exercising her First Amendment rights. The case, filed in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Georgia, alleges that after Hollingsworth sent a text message to Sheriff Williams expressing her intention to file a recall petition against him, she was wrongfully charged with “Harassing Communications.” Despite a judge later recalling the warrant due to lack of probable cause, the defendants allegedly left damaging information about Hollingsworth on social media. The complaint seeks damages and accountability for what Hollingsworth claims is an abuse of government authority aimed at silencing public criticism.
